‘Putting your Emotions in Motion’.

Good mental health is fundamental to the wellbeing of individuals, their families, and the whole population. Conversely, mental health problems and mental illness are among the greatest causes of disability, diminished quality of life, and reduced productivity. People affected by mental health problems often have high levels of morbidity and mortality, experiencing poorer general health and higher rates of death from a range of causes, including suicide. These conditions are significant in terms of prevalence and disease burden, and have far-reaching impacts for families, carers and others in the community

(National Mental Health plan 2003-08).

MEDICARE BUDGET 2011 UPDATE.

The Federal Budget and what it means for AMHSWs....

The outcomes of this week's Federal Budget announcements are as follows:

  • It's business as usual for AMHSW's!
  • An expansion of Access to Allied Psychological Services with particular focus on the needs of low income and disadvantaged people, rural and regional areas, Indigenous communities and children. In addition there is a massive investment in services for people with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • The number of sessions available to a client from an Allied Health Practitioner is to be reduced from 12 to 10 per year.  This measure will be implemented from the 1st November, 2011.
  • The other change to the Better Access program is a significant reduction in the fee available to GPs for mental health treatment plans.
The AASW Federal budget media release on the website can be found here.
